The Abu Salem passport case hogged the limelight once again with the repatriation of the most wanted man along with his girl friend Monica Bedi. The gang procured one set of fake passports from Kurnool by engaging an agent in 2001. The office of the Superintendent of Police B.Malla Reddy was abuzz with dozens of inquiries from New Delhi and Hyderabad and from press on Friday.
According to information, the Regional Passport Office in Hyderabad forwarded three applications to the SP at Kurnool in April 2001 for verification. The applications were prepared in the name of Sana Malik Kamal, Ramil Kamal Malik and Neha Asif Jafri affixing the photo of Shabana Azmi, the first wife of Abu Salem. Based on the verification of the special branch staff, the SP signed the inquiry reports on June 28, 2001 leading to the issue of passports two months later.
