Janashakti leader killed in encounter

Karimnagar, May 7, 2005

The CPI-ML Janashakti Jagtial area committee commander Ramesh was killed in an exchange of fire with the police in Vemulavada mandal in the early hours of Saturday.

According to the Vemulawada CI, K.Nageshwara Rao said on information about Janashakti naxalites planning to abduct a villager for ransom from Lingampalli police parties went to the village. On seeing the police, four naxalites who were present there took to their heels. When the police asked them to surrender, the naxalite opened fire and in turn the police retaliated. During the exchange of fire, Ramesh was killed and the others fled the scene.. In Kakinada, the deputy commander of Konalova local guerrilla squad of the CPI (Maoist) Vanaja surrendered before the East Godavari SP V Naveen Chand.
