High drama in shifting Suri - Media lathicharged

Suri, the prime accused in the murder of Paritala Ravi, the slain TDP MLA was shifted to the Central Prison on Saturday amidst high drama. Suri was shifted from Anathapur to Visakhapatnam on the directions from the Election Commission following fears expressed by the TDP that his presence in Anathapur will not ensure free and fair elections in Penukonda by elections. Press persons staged a dharna for over one hour at the Central Jail when a policeman from the escort party hit a photographer with the butt of his riffle.

This was happened when the media persons tried to interact with Suri where the vehicle carrying Suri, a constable from Anathapur lost his control and attacked the media persons. After a noisy dharna at the Central Prison, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) BD Patro promised an inquiry into the incident. The agitated media persons sought an explanation from the prison authorities, the Deputy Prison Superintendent, Saidaiah apologized for the incident. Meanwhile, the AP Union of Working Journalists condemned the behavior of policemen and demanded disciplinary action against those responsible for the incident.
