The Penukonda by election began with blood shed when six TDP activists and an Assistant Sub Inspector were killed and many people were injured when at the time of P.Sunita, the TDP candidate filed here nomination on Friday. The police fired nearly three hundred rounds and dozens of teargas shells to quell violent mobs of TDP workers. The TDP workers outside the office of the RDO has created violence situation and in the violence that ensued, irate mobs set fire ten lorries and a police jeep on the NH 7 in front of the office while retreating.
The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy blamed the TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu for the violence and the demand of judicial enquiry by the TDP president was turned down as Magisterial probe had already been ordered. The ASI of Hindupur who was seriously injured in the stone pelting succumbed to the injuries at the Government Hospital. Twenty police men and officers besides more than 50 TDP activists sustained previous injuries. It is learnt that the nomination papers were misplaced in the stamped.
