On the occasion of the International Women's Day, the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy at an official function announced the launch of an insurance scheme from next month for parents who undergo family planning operation after the birth of a single girl child.
An insurance policy of Rs.1 lakh would be paid to the girl on attaining the age of 20 years. The existing scheme of payment of Rs.5000 to parents of a girl child and providing scholarship of Rs.500 in the seventh and tenth classes was not really benefiting them he said. The new scheme also envisages payment of an annual scholarship of Rs.1250 for four years beginning at the age of nine. In the case of parents having two girls, a similar scheme would be implement but the amount to be paid on attaining 20 years would be Rs.30,000.
