Arrested naxal linked to Vempenta massacre

Kurnool, March 12, 2005

An action team member of the CPI (Maoist) who was arrested at Atmakur on Friday has been identified as the one who participated in the Vempenta massacre.

The SP B Malla Reddy told reporters at Atmakur on Saturday that Sivaji of tummadu Jarugumilli mandal of Prakasam district and two other went to atmakur to get two mobile phones repaired and collect a consignment at the transport office.. The duo left the town after completing the task while Sivaji stayed back. The consignment of an implement to plant land mines was delivered in the name of Govindachari. Narrating the Vempenta masscure, Sivaji said a 16 member naxal team invited 28 elders of Vempenta village into the forest and hacked eight of them to death.
