A naxal of the CPI (ML), Janashakthi group Venkat Reddy was reportedly taken into custody by the Hyderabad Police on the charge of attempting to extort Rs.1 lakh in the name of party fund from Friday. The North Zone police with the assistance of Task Force teams laid a trap for the naxal when he asked the businessman to bring the money to a junction in South Lalaguda. The police rounded up Reddy when the latter was about to take the money from the businessman.
Sources reveal that Venkata Reddy was a member of Janashakthi Warangal District Committee. In another incident, in Mahabubnagar, action team members of the CPI (Maoist) shot dead a former naxlite of Veldanda mandal in early hours of Friday. In a note left at the scene in the name of Sugunakka of the Kalwakurthy dalam, the Maoists warned that those acting as police informers would meet the same fate.
