Government employees gets Dearness Allowance hike

The State Government has announced increase in dearness allowance for its staff and DA Relief for Pensioners and an ad hoc hike of Rs.25 per month to Part-time Assistants and village servants with effect from January 1, 2005.

This decision which will place an additional burden of Rs.198 crores annually on the exchequer, was taken by the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy after he met representatives of the employees’ service organizations on Tuesday.

Arrears fir the period from January 1 to upto date will be credited to the General Provident Fund. The release said that the dearness allowance relief hike for State pensioners would be at 2.25 per cent of the basic pension and 3 per cent in case of UGC pensioners. The Chief Minister said that these benefits were in tune with the Government’s commitment to employees’ welfare.

Government lifts ban on transfers
Hyderabad
The State Government on Tuesday decided to lift the ban on transfers with a view to improving administrative efficiency and ensuring transparency. Announcing details at a press conference, the Finance Minister, K.Rosaiah said that for the first time the transfer powers were being decentralized to avoid the possibility of employees rushing to Hyderabad from districts. The relaxation on the ban would be valid from June 15 to 30 and all the transfers should be completed by that date by the competent authority. According to GO issued, the persons transferred should report at the new place of posting before July 10,2005 and any violation would be viewed seriously. The transfers would be done on counselling apart from routine administrative procedure.

Naxals strike on Kukunoor Police Station

Maoists literally overran the Kukunoor police station late on Monday night. A lone constable on duty ran for his life as naxalites approached it after cutting power supply to the village. They fired about twenty rounds and predictably there was no retaliation. In the operation nearly sixty extremists took part. As they could not find the Sub Inspector and ASI, they both were out of station. The Superintendent of Police, Bhavan Saxena reached the station in the early hours. The police sealed all the routes connecting to Bhadrachalam, Burgumpadu and Aswaropet. The IG, Ish Kumar and the DIG BL Meena also visited the police station.

ACB raids the former Endowments Commissioner’s house

Anti Corruption Bureau officials investigating the temple land scam raided the residences of higher ups of the Endowment Department including that of the former Endowments Commissioner I.Venkateswarlu on Tuesday. Three special teams swooped down on the houses of Venkateswarulu, the present Joint Commissioner of Endowments (Estates) Ramakrishna Kumar and Deputy Commissioner Mohana Chary on Tuesday morning. The teams headed by ACB Superintendents of Police continued the searches till evening. Sources said that documents pertaining to the temple land scam were seized from the house of former Endowments Commissioner’s house.

APPSC not to scrap Group I Exams

The Andhra Pradesh Service Commission made it clear on Tuesday that there would be no postponement or cancellation of the remaining papers of Group I examination on the basis of media reports. The Secretary of the APPSC, Harpreet Singh along with other members dismissed the reports which carried the purported question paper as intelligent guess work by unidentified persons to create confusion among the candidates.
