Naxals belonging to CPI (Maoist) attacked a police station at Kukunoor in Aswaraopet on Monday night. A reliable source says that nearly sixty naxals participated in the operation. There were hardly half a dozen police personnel at the station and their fate are yet to be known. The rest of the police went for bandobust duty at the Rythu Sadassu attended by the Chief Minister on Sunday.

In a day of swift developments, the Endowments Minister, M.Satyanarayanarao submitted his resignation from the Cabinet owning responsibility for the temple lands scandal, but his resignation was rejected by the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy. The Chief Minister, who held a meeting with senior revenue and endowment officials to take stock of the situation, later announced a judicial inquiry into the scandal. It will be conducted by a retired High Court Judge. The meeting reviewed the orders, assignments and court directions issued in transactions of temple lands earlier. The Chief Minister told to the reporters that he rejected the resignation as there was no prima facie evidence about the involvement of the Minister in the scandal. The Chief Minister suspended the transactions of temple lends entered into during the period of I.Venkateswarulu who is at the centre of the controversy served as Commissioner. The registration of lands if any also stood cancelled. The ACB was told to book cases against all erring officials and no one will be spared.

The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday launched 'Badi Baata' the week long back to school initiative by the Government to get children in the age group of five to eleven years into the school. After launching the programme, the Chief Minister said that by June end the Government will fill up all vacancies of teaching positions in the Department of School Education.

The CPI (M) platoon area commander, Suresh, in a telephonic statement on Sunday asked all political leaders from the Congress, TDP and BJP to resign from their posts by June 15 or to face consequences. He also asked the wine dealers to cancel or surrender their licences for which they had bid recently through tenders by the same date.
