Telugu Desam Party retains Penukonda by-poll

The Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has retained the Penukonda Assembly seat with its candidate P.Sunita. Ms.Sunita emerged victorious defeating little know B.Sriramulu of the Congress. Ms.Sunita described her election as people's victory. In Vijayawada, the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy claimed moral victory for the Congress though TDP won on sympathy wave. The APCC president, K.Keshava Rao said that it was sympathy factor that ensured the TDP victory. In Karimnagar, Chada Venkata Reddy, CPI floor leader in the Assembly said that her victory was due to prevalence of a strong sympathy wave.

The Andhra Pradesh United Teachers' Federation has called upon teachers to take out rallies and stage dharna in all district headquarters on June 22 in pursuance of their pending demands. A decision was taken at its State Executive Committee meeting held on Sunday.
