The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N.Chandrababu Naidu launched the party’s campaign for the civic elections in the city lambasting the Congress rule and also highlighting local factors to buttress his arguments.
He began his road show at the Ambedkar statue in Dabagardens. He took a dig at the ruling party MLAs saying that at Gangavaram fishermen were sought to be exploited while the Sivasankar Colony land was wanted for a hotel or petrol bunk.
He wanted the land to be allotted on a transparent basis and alleged that valuable land like that of the dairy farm was being given a furtive manner. He ruled out any alliance with the BJP for the coming municipal elections.

The Seventh Pay Revision Commission, headed by J.Rambabu submitted its report on the revision of salaries covering over ten lakh State Government employees to the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday. The 1500 page report, whose contents were not revealed, is reported to have recommended an increase in pay scales by merging D.A. with basic pay. The Principal Secretary, (Finance) P.Ramakantha Reddy said that his department would scrutinize the report before making any recommendations to the Government.

The police arrested two Janashakti naxals on Wednesday in connection with the murder of the CPI(ML) Janashakti Ramachandran group leader MV Prasad and his wife. The Rajahmundry DSP said two revolves, two cell phones, and cash worth Rs.50,000 and a motor cycle were seized from the extremists. The police also seized some letters, written by Ramachander to the party Central Committee in which he mentioned about the killing of Prasad terming him as a police informer.

Leaders of the JAC of unions in the State owned ASPRTC urged the employees to be prepared to on strike from July 4 and forewarned them that it would be ‘Do or Die’ struggle to save the Corporation. A meeting of employees near the Jubilee Bus Station in Seceunderabad on Thursday evening, the leaders said that unlike in the previous strikes, the strike now would not just be for a remedial measure to save a sick corporation. It would have to be struggle to give a re birth to an organization., which directly supported approximately 1.20 lakh employees and indirectly made the lives of millions that RTC transported every day.
