APSRTC Unions talks fail – strike looks inevitable

The talks between the Unions and the Management of the APSRTC failed once again. Despite an earnest appeal from the management, the unions have decided to go ahead with their planned strike from July 4. At a meeting held on Wednesday with the Managing Director of APSRTC, V.Krishna Rao, the leaders of the four unions expressed willingness to postpone the strike, if not abandon it altogether provided the State Government reduced the sales tax on diesel to four percent from 23 percent. They wanted the Government of repaying the amount of Rs.1250 crores that the corporation had borrowed from banks and other financial institutions.

Naxals dump unearthed at GK Veedhi Mandal
Visakhapatnam
The Police unearthed a huge dump of Maoists at Ammavari Darakonda village in GK Veedhi Mandal of Visakhapatnam district on Wednesday. According to the SP, SK Jain, a Hero Honda Electricity generator, one VCD player, one VCP, one computer, five charge lights, five bundles of wire, one multi meter, were found in the dump.

Medicos strike from Thursday
Hyderabad
The Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors Association will go ahead with their proposed State-wide strike from Thursday. According to APJUDA office bearers, the strike would affect emergency services only if the Government failed to respond positively to the association’s demands within a week. For the time being, junior doctors would stay away from classes and from attending to patients in wards as well as out patient services. The Government instead of initiating talks to solve the issues on Wednesday had only repeated its request to postpone the strike for a week.
