YS Rajasekhara Reddy on UAE, Egypt and Israel visit

The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy is embarking on a three nation tour of UAE, Egypt and Israel to give a boost to industrial investments in the State and to study better agricultural practices from July 5 to 11. He asked the officials to prepare a blue print to attract new industrial investments to the tune of Rs.15, 000 crores by 2010 by amending the Industrial Investment Promotion Policy suitably. The Chief Minister also asked the officials to create attractive packages to woo investors on Thursday. The Chief Minister will have meetings with the Ministers of IT and Agriculture, Government of Israel. In Dubai, he will be meeting the dignitaries in the Government of UAE.

CPI activists arrested in Visakhapatnam

Nearly twenty activists including 12 women of the CPI were held when they tried to barge into the Municipal Corporation office after a dharna on Thursday morning. They were demanding, among other things, daily water supply, ration cards, house sites and improvement in sanitation. The CPI activists sat in a dharna and later tried to lay siege to the corporation office in response to the call given by the party’s city committee. The CPI district secretary and secretary were among those who led the protest. The police later released them.

Varavara Rao resignation rejected

The resignation of Varavara Rao as member of the Andhra Pradesh Revolutionary Writers’ Association has been rejected. New ration cards from June 26

The Government has decided to issue new white and pink ration cards to all eligible persons from June 26 in all municipalities and Municipal Corporations except Hyderabad. The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy took a decision on Thursday during a meeting with the Civil Supplies Minister G.Vijayaramarao and other officials. It was decided to give training at MCR Human Resources Development Institute on June 18 and 19 for District Informatics Officers and Nodal Officers appointed for each civic body for the purpose of issuing computerized fresh cards. The officers not below the rank of Deputy Tahsildars would be authorized to put their signatures on the card before lamination. A sum of Rs.40 would be collected for each card, which includes bar coded coupons for rice/kerosene for a period of three years.

The All India Congress Committee has announced the names of seven District Congress Committee chief. The Chairman of the State Election Authority, GS Basavaraj, in a press release on Thursday named Venugopala Reddy as the Anathapur DCC president, Dronamraju Srinivas (Visakhapatnam city), Pyla Somi Naidu (Vijayawada city) Radhakrisna (Guntur City) Muppalaneni Seshagirirao (Guntur District), S.Prakash (Mahabubnagar) and Mallesh Goud (Nalgonda).

Custody for Suri extended
Anathapur
The judicial custody of 12 persons accused in the Paritala Ravi murder case, including the key accused, Suri was extended till June 30 by the Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate, A.Jayaraj on Thursday. Suri was shifted to Cheralapalli jail in Hyderabad from Visakhapatnam on Tuesday.
