As part of the State Government's time bound action plan to irrigate an additional 5 to 6 lakh acres, the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday approved the release of another 1.5 lakh Agricultural Power connections under Tatkal scheme for 2005-06. Out of this 50,000 were free connections. The sanction covers all distribution companies and Rural Electrical S8pply Cooperative Societies besides 15 per cent quota for SCs and six percent for STs. The number of pump sets by the end of the financial year would touch 25 lakhs in the State which already has the highest number with 23.78 lakh connections surpassing Maharastra and accounts for 43.63 per cent in the South.

At a meeting organized by the Telenagana United Front on Sunday, Vijayashanti hinted of forming a new party for the struggle to have a separate State of Telenaga. In her brief speech, she criticized the Congress and the TDP for identifying themselves with two social groups. She sought to know whether SC, ST and backward classes would have any in the political power. She said that she is not craving for any post through anti Telenaga forces gave it a co lour. While some said the struggle was motivated by a desire for power, some others dismissed it saying that reorganization of States was done on the principle of one language one State.

The nightlong sit in protest by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) at the nizam College Grounds was called off on Sunday morning. The founder president of MRPS, Manda Krishna Madiga, told presspersons that the protest was called off following an assurance by the Municipal Administration Minister, Koneru Ranga Rao and he gave 10 days time to the Government to send an all party delegation led by the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy to New Delhi to persuade the Centre to introduce a bill in the Parliament on SC Categorization.
