Minister opposes merger of VSP and SAIL
Hyderabad
The Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Santosh Mohan Dev on Saturday expressed himself against the move to merge Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) saying the status quo should be maintained. In a press conference after visiting BHEL unit of Ramachandrapuram, he said that Visakhapatnam Steel Plant had its own basic advantages, as it was a shore based one. The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy should take up the need for maintaining the status quo with the Prime Minister and the Union Minister for Steel. He said that he held discussions with the Chief Minister about revival of sick undertakings, including two cement factories, BHPV and Hindustan Cables Ltd.,

Arrested naxal leaders shifted to Hyderabad

The CPI (Maoist) State Executive Committee member, Ganti Prasadam and the former district committee secretary, Yamasani Surender were shifted to an unknown place in Hyderabad for further interrogation on Saturday morning. Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Writers' Association member N.Venugopal was sent back for judicial remand in the district prison. In this context, The Revolutionary Writers Association has demanded quashing of the conspiracy case against for of its members and two Maoists recently arrested at Aurangabad and demanded their unconditional release.
