13 killed in various road accidents

Hyderabad
Six of a marriage party was among the thirteen persons killed in different road accidents in the State while 41 others were injured on Wednesday.

Seven persons including the bride and driver of a mini bus were killed and 17 injured when the bus dashed against wooden logs projecting out of a tractor trailer near Narasaraopet in Guntur district. The bridegroom's parents were also dead. The bridegroom however escaped with minor injuries. The marriage party was traveling from Vinukonda to Penuganchiprolu when the accident occurred. In another accident in Cuddapah district four persons were killed and seventeen injured.

Heavy security for Penukonda by poll

Ananthapur
The Penukonda Assembly constituency has virtually turned into a fortress of security with about 5700 police personnel deployed all over the segment for Thursday's polling for the by poll. Outsiders have been completely barred from the constituency since Wednesday.

Polling personnel and equipment relating to elect ions have been dispatched to the constituency. They will be stationed at 27 pick up points in the segment on Wednesday night and will be dispatched to the polling stations in the early hours of Thursday.

According to the Superintendent of Police, RS Praveen Kumar, each polling station will have a minimum of one SI, one head constable and 6 civil constables, one woman constable two to four home guards and one section of armed policemen. It will be even higher in hypersensitive and extremist affected villages. The police have identified 68 villages as hypersensitive and 43 as sensitive.

Third Central Observer deputed for elections

Hyderabad
Treating Penukonda as a special case in view of various factors, the Election Commission on Wednesday deputed a third Central observer to the constituency to oversee the polling process.

Election authorities said, D.Satyamurthy, an IAS officer is deputed as observer for the elections. On the directions of the Election Commission, the district election authorities to ensure that the two ministers JC Diwakar Reddy and N.Raghuveera Reddy moved out of the constituency till the end of polling on Thursday evening.

YSR moves to his official residence

The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy performed 'Gruha Pravesam' on Wednesday and moved into the new official residence at Begumpet.

Close relatives of the Chief Minister and several officials and the advisor to the Chief Minister (Political Affairs), KVP Ramachandra Rao were present at the function termed purely private. Press persons were denied entry into the premises by security personnel saying that it is as private ceremony.
