The Mahila Sessions Judge, Ch Chalapathirao on Friday upheld the conviction of the city-based Gynaecologist, K Rama Devi and her assistant, P Venkata Sriramachandramurty by the trial court for cheating a woman but reduced the sentence to six months imprisonment. The two collected Rs.55,000 from a woman of Kankipadu promising her that she would be able to conceive through the test tube process. The women led to believe that the treatment had worked.
When the women went for a second opinion, she found the claim was false. She lodged a complaint with the police on December 4, 2000. The fourth town Metropolitan Magistrate in March 2003 convicted the doctors to two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh each.
