Land Distribution Programme launched

Mahabubnagar, January 26, 2005

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday launched a massive programme to distribute 1.5 lakh acres to the poor in this town of backward Mahabubnagar district. Kick starting the programme formally by distributing land documents to 65 of the 4691 beneficiaries, the Chief Minister said it was the first time after Independence that such huge land distribution programme had been taken up.

Unlike, the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-run Government which just made promises, he said that his Government was implementing them by ushering in Indiramma Rajyam. The Government was not merely providing land, but also economic assistance for its development and Rs 500 crores would be spent for this purpose. Amounts ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 would be spent for developing the land. He said that measures were also being taken to provide them with irrigation facilities.
