Member of Legislature (MLA) and politician from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Paritala Ravi and two others were shot dead at the TDP office in Anantapur by unidentified gunmen. Eight others were critically injured in the incident. As the news of the murder spread like wild fire, several TDP workers in several towns in the state have burnt APSRTC buses.
An official spokesman of APSRTC said as many as 58 buses were burnt and nearly 300 buses were damaged. Offices of the ruling Congress Party and State Government establishments were also attacked. Director General of Police (DGP) Swaranjit Sen, said a heavy security cover had been provided to Ravi as it was perceived that his life was under threat from factions in Anantapur district inimical to him. In fact, five of his 10 gunmen were present at the time of murder.
