Kadapa Mayor, P.Ravindranath Reddy has exhorted the hearing impaired as well as the mentally challenged to compete with their normal counterparts with confidence without being discouraged by their handicap. With determination persons with disabilities could perform on par with normal beings and gain higher positions with hard work, the Mayor said while speaking at Helen Keller's High School for the Deaf on Monday in connection with International Day of the Handicapped.
Zilla Parishad CEO P Durga Prasad urged the differently able to draw inspiration from Helen Keller who became disabled at a young age. A sum of Rs.65 lakhs was spent on the welfare of physically challenged persons in the district so far he said. Nearly 120 physically challenged persons of Kadapa district gained employment as Junior Assistants and typists. The Mayor gave away prizes to hearing impaired and mentally challenged students who excelled in the competitions held on the occasion.
