The Government has admitted that the prices of vegetables have shot up over the last couple of months but attributed to it to a nation wide scenario on account of damage to crop from heavy rain. The prices of some other essential commodities had also up but there was a drop in some others. The Agricultural Minister N Raghuveera Reddy and Marketing Minister B Satyanarayana told at a press conference on Monday.
They said that the Government had taken various measures to overcome the shortage of vegetables, including market intervention. They were just yielding results. The Minister for Agriculture said that the prices will be under control by December 15 and by month end the consumers will be relieved as there will be a drastic fall. He said the Government has taken measures that a subsidy of Rs.6 crores was given for supply of onions to Rythu Bazaars.
