The Temple Protection Movement (TPM) has appealed to the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy to enact legislation in the ensuing Assembly session to amend the Endowments Act and protect the entire temple system.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, movement convener, MV Soundarajan said Section 53 and 54 of the Act, which referred to the nomination of successor of Mathadhipathis and its subsequent approval by the endowment Commissioner, should form part of the main Act after amendments made to it. In this connection, it may be recalled that the Supreme Court in its ruling in 197 had asked the State Government to make necessary amendments based on an affidavit submitted before the court.
