Due to ESMA imposed by the State Government, the Andhra Pradesh Druggists and Chemists Association announced its decision to call off its six day old strike on Wednesday evening. Announcing the decision after talks with the association leaders, the Home Minister, K Jana Redddy, and Commercial Tax Minister, Konathala Ramakrishna said the druggists had agreed to the Government's proposal to review the implementation of VAT on medicines after three months.
Traders are welcome to bring to the notice of the Government any hardships due to the VAT and will get them examined. Mr. Jana Reddy said that the Government would sympathetically consider the plea for withdrawal of cases against the druggists and chemists who were detained by the police. Mr. Ramakrishna said the Empowered Committee which would be meeting in New Delhi on 16th April would discuss the issue.
