A section of the 92,000 strong workforce of the Singareni Collieries owing allegiance to the Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) and other "extreme left" trade unions will go on a three day strike from 7:00 am on Monday demanding implementation of the Seventh Wage Board.
According to reports available on Sunday, majority unions and unions affiliated to INTUC, AITUC, CITU, HMS and BMS are not participating in the strike. There was no move from the Management side or from unions for discussions. However, the Joint Labour Commissioner (Central) is likely to call both parties to the negotiating table. In this connection, the Government has imposed ESMA.
