BJP leader among three shot by naxals

Hyderabad, April 22, 2005

The BJP Manchal mandal unit president, M.Mahender Gowd was shot dead by naxals in broad daylight on Friday in Ranga Reddy district around the time, the APCC president K.Keshava Rao began his Gandhi Sandesh Yatra in a nearby village. In separate incidents on Thursday night, a TDP upa sarpanch was killed in Warangal district and a surrendered naxalites in Nizamabad district by naxals.

According to police sources, they suspect the killing to be an act of terror against political activities. In Guntur, in an exchange of fire one naxal was killed by the police. The BJP national secretary, Bandaru Dattatreya in a statement condemned the killing spree by naxals which had led to the loss of three party activists within a month. He stated that the naxals were killing political activists without any reason.
