Six pilgrims dies in an accident
Vizianagaram
Fourteen persons who are all from one family belonging to Vizianagaram on their way to have a holy dip traveling in a jeep met with an accident on Tuesday night at Gannavaram. The jeep in which they were traveling lost control and met with a ghastly accident. In the accident 6 persons were killed on the spot. The police immediately took the victims to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Krishna Pushkarams – Over 3 crore pilgrims have holy bath
Hyderabad
The much awaited Krishna Pushkarams were ended on Wednesday with over 3 crore pilgrims thronging Krishna at various bathing ghats in five districts to take a holy dip since the festivities begins on August 28th. The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy visited Beechupalli, Vadapalli and Vijayawada on Wednesday. He went around and interacted with the pilgrims asking them about the arrangements.

He participated in the concluding function along with the Minister for Endowments, M.Satyanarayana Rao and Municipal Administration Minister, Koneru Ranga Rao. Except the first day stampede, nothing unfortunate incident took place.
CPI says police are restoring to harassment

The CPI (ML) Janashakti on Wednesday demanded steps by the State Government to put an end to the alleged harassment of people in Yellareddypet and Vemulawada in Karimnagar district by both the police and former Naxalites with a view to preventing them from participating the sixth anniversary of the party leader, Jampanna on September 11th. In a statement issued on Wednesday urged the State Government to stick to its offer of allowing meetings even while checking the activities of the police and ex-naxalites.
Total literacy mission

The Minister for School Education, N.Rajyalakshmi on Wednesday launched 'Akshara Bharati' (Mission for Total Literacy) aimed at providing equitable access to quality educational opportunities to all children youths and adults in the State.

Speaking at the International Literacy Day celebrations, she said that an expert committee would be constituted to suggest changes in the examination system and administration besides coming up with new ideas to improve quality of education.
Andhra University Affiliated Colleges contributes Rs. 25,000 for CM fund

Visakhapatnam
The Affiliated Colleges Managements Association of Andhra University area has contributed Rs.25,000/- to the Chief Minister's Relief fund towards meeting the cost of treatment of poor children suffering from heart ailments. The Association president P.Chiranjevini Kumari and secretary, P.Venkatarao handed over the cheque to the Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konatala Ramakrishna.
