Atmakur MLA sentenced to imprisonment

The Atmakur Sub-Court in Nellore district has convicted the Atmakur MLA, K.Laxmaiah Naidu and sentenced him to undergo three years’ simple imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs. 2,000/- for manhandling of the Chejerla Sub-Inspector, Venkateswararao in 1991.
Another TDP activist killed in Anantapur

In the continuing spate of attacks on TDP activists in Anantapur district, one more follower of the partry was bombed and hacked to death in the town on Tuesday night. According to the information received by the police, four unidentified persons attacked him with bombs when he was sitting in his shop and while he tried to escape the attack, the assailants chased and hacked him to death.

Lawyers to boycott courts

The Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh has called upon advocates in the State to abstain from courts on September 8th to protest against the police lathicharge on the lawyers and judicial officers in Lucknow last week. In an emergency meeting held on Tuesday, the Bar Council of India adopted a resolution condemning what it called the ‘brutal and unprovoked attack’ on advocates and judicial officers.
Five persons died in road accidents

In various accidents five persons were killed and seven others injured when an auto rickshaw and a truck collided near Dharmavaram Cross roads on the NH 7 in Mahabubnagar district on Tuesday. In another accident, two persons were killed and five others sustained injuries when a bus hit a stationary lorry.
