Ganesh immersion goes peacefully
Hyderabad

The Ganesh immersion passed off peacefully in the twin cities on Monday amidst tight police bandobust. The rhythm of dholaks, the music of clarinets and silver coated trumpets, the chimes of brass bells and the eagle eyes of the police made a strange combination even as the Lord cam in myriad forms.

Two TDP leaders held under PD Act
Anantapur

Two Telugu Desam Party leaders of the district were arrested under the Preventive Detention Act in Hyderabad on Monday. The two were accused in many criminal cases and they were arrested and sent to jail.

Certification for VSP
Visakhapatnam

The Bureau Veritas Quality International (India) has recertified Visakhapatnam Steel Plant's ISO 14001:1996 for another three years. The recertification papers were handed over to the VSP CMD, BK Panda on Monday. The VSP Director (operations) KK Rao released the 'Environmental Report 2003-04'. Its environmental web portal was also launched on the occasion by the Executive Director (works) KA.Naidu.

Proddutur Municipal Chairperson held
Cuddapah

The Proddutur Municipal Chairperson P.Savithramma of the TDP who was stripped of her post on the charge of misuse of funds sat in dharna before the Municipal Council hall along with 16 TDP Councillors on Monday evening while the council general body meeting was in progress. She and the other Councillors were arrested by the police on the premises for violating prohibitory orders imposed.

Paritala's house searched
Anantapur

The Dharmavaram sub-division Police found a pair of blood stained clothes and footwear in the residence of the TDP MLA of Penukonda, Paritala Ravindra. According to the SP, RS Praveen Kumar, a team led by the Additional SP OF Dharmavaram Manish Kumar Sinha searched the residence of Mr.Ravindra for about two hours on getting information that illegal weapons were concealed in Ravindra's house. The police sent the blood stained clothes and footwear are being set for forensic analysis.

Minister Jakkampudi Rammohana Rao appears before the court
Rajahmundry

The Minister for Roads and Buildings Jakkampudi Rammohana Rao on Monday appeared in the Second and Third Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate courts as a petitioner and as an accused in connection with three separate cases. In two cases, the Minister is facing a charge of assaulting a TDP functionary and others during a by-election to a municipal ward and threatening an Assistant Engineer (irrigation).

The Second Additional Judicial First Class Court adjourned the hear to 1st February.
Six drowned during immersion
Khammam

Six persons were drowned in the Nagarjuna Sagar left canal near Palair reservoir, during the immersion of Lord Ganesh idols. All the victims were from Suryapet division in Nalgonda district.
Chalo Hyderabad
In a statement issued by the PDSU State President, T.Sanjeev will be conducting Chalo Assembly on 28th of this month to focus the demands of the students as the Government is not releasing scholarships to the deserved students. Despite the repeated demands, for the past four years, the Government has not taken any action. They also demanded that abolition of fees to the students who were in drought affected areas.
