Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya Conference to be held in Vijayawada

The 10th State Conference of Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya will be held in Vijayawada from December 4th to 6th. This was disclosed at a press conference held on Wednesday by its general secretary. Issues such as legislation to prevent domestic violence, strict implementation of the Supreme Court directive on curbing sexual harassment of women at work place, earmarking of fifty percent of work under the employment guarantee scheme would come up for discussions.

Chalo Delhi by Youth Federation
Hyderabad

The State Committee of Democratic Youth Federation of India will take part in the 'Chalo Delhi rally' on November 3rd demanding education and employment opportunities for all and filling of vacant posts in the Government departments. In a statement issued on Wednesday by its leaders said that the DYFI would collect one crore signatures and submit a representation to the Prime Minister on the demands.

Hundreds of teachers from all over the district staged a dharna in front of the District Collectorate on Wednesday in support of their demands. The teachers wanted the Collector to review his order that all Government servants should stay at their place of work among other demands.

Couple's death triggers protest
Eluru

The death of a couple allegedly due to the negligence by a corporate hospital sparked off tension on Wednesday. According to information, a worker and his wife of Palagudem were brought to the hospital in an unconscious state. The couple was said to have consumed poison in a bid to commit suicide due to family problems and were died in the wee hours of Wednesday due to lack of proper medical care. A dharna was staged in front of the private hospital with the victims’ relatives and the leaders from the Congress, the TDP and IFTU.

Power projects by Genco
Cuddapah

The AP Genco is constructing four new power projects at Vijayawada, Bhoopalapalli, KPTS and Jurala, according to the Director (Thermal) G.Vijaya Kumar. Tenders will be called for the 660 MW fourth phase of Vijayawada Thermal Power Station very soon, he said in a press conference on Tuesday.

A new thermal power plant was being set up at Bhoopalapalli in Warangal district with an installed capacity of 500 MW and construction was in a primary stag. The construction of the sixth phase of Kothagudem Thermal Power station was also in a preliminary state.

Threat to Udayabhanu

The TV anchor Udayabhanu on Wednesday alleged that she had been subjected to physical and mental torture by her mother Dr.Aruna and other family members over the last few years and apprehended that her husband Vijay and she had a threat to their lives from them. Speaking to press persons on Wednesday, Mrs.Udayabhanu narrated the sequence of events right from her childhood to the time when she was married to an NRI Mohammmed Fasiullah Khan. At one point of time, the attempted suicide. She said that she had to leave her house and stay at a lawyer's residence for the last one year. In the circumstances, she sought the police protection to them.
