Government warns use of weapons by naxals
Hyderabad

The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy addressing policemen and officers at the Police Commemoration Parade strongly protested the use of weapons by naxalites on Thursday. He made it clear that the Government would counter with full force the attempt by naxalites to capture power by adopting a violent path using solution to people's problems as a ruse.

He said that the police had the right to use them on behalf of people in a democratic set up. His speech assumes importance in the backdrop of the conclusion of the first phase of talks with the CPI (Maoist) and CPI (ML Janashakti) where arms and violence became a key issue. The Chief Minister, Home Minister, DIG and top officials placing wreaths at Martyrs Memorial.

In this year 894 police personnel lost their lives during the operations and out of which 22 in the State alone. The Home Minister, K.Jana Reddy wanted the policemen to respect human rights while performing their duties.

Land problem - Committee with judicial powers
Hyderabad

The Government is toying with the idea of forming a committee with retired officers well versed in social aspects of land related problems to go into all the land issues raised by the naxals during the recent talks.

Sources said that the committee would be empowered with judicial powers by which it will be able to dispose of the cases so that the problem of litigation could be tackled.

MLA land occupied by naxals
Hyderabad

The Telugu Desam MLA from Uravakonda, P.Keshav on Thursday said that the CPI (Maoist) leader Ramakrishna does not know the facts regarding his land and other property. He lamented, that occupation of his 40 acres of land in Anathapur is a perennially drought hit district and said he neither do a business nor own an industry.
