Naxalites goes back to forests

The CPI (Maoist) and CPI (ML), Janashakti naxalites numbering to fifty strong brigade entered into the Nallamala forest ranges on Wednesday after a ten day long sojourn in the outside world to hold peace talks with the Government. The naxalite leaders and the contingent of guards walked half a kilometers into the forest from the adjoining Srisailam. They were received by Ravi and 30 other armed naxalites in olive green uniforms who were all lined up in a row. Couriers of the party were waiting on the road to stop the vehicles of naxalites and guide them into the forest where they were to be joined. The police force deployed for their security stood opposite each other and shook hands and later the security forces went away.

Move to improve sanitation in the city

As a part of improving sanitation, the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has divided the city into 15 zones and the works will be entrusting to the private agencies for a period of two years. The Municipal Commissioner, N.Srikanth speaking to news persons on Wednesday said four agencies had been selected and for choosing the rest, tenders had been called.
The entire process will be completed within two months. He said the work of upgrading important roads to a total length of 60km at a cost of Rs.224 crores in three phases. The services of the Rail India Technology and Engineering Services had been requisitioned for this purpose and it had suggested the construction of two flyovers from Ram talkies to Asilmetta and for the Gurazada state to Sangam Sarat theatres.
Mr.Srikanth said the work on the filtration plant and pipeline was progressing as per schedule and it should be completed by December end.

Landless poor occupy surplus land

The landless poor of Gadekole in Srikonda mandal under the leadership of the CPI (ML) New Democracy have reportedly occupied about 400 acres of the Government and Surplus land for cultivation in the village. Reports say, 200 persons descended on the land, including the reserve forest and surplus land and pitched red flags there. They cleared the bushes and trees to make it cultivable in the last two days.

Panel to study on pillar issue

A three member committee was constituted by the Government to advise it on the future course of action in response to the growing protests against the demolition of the 1000 pillar mandapam at Tirumala. Mr.PVRK Prasad, the former Executive Officer of the TTD is the Chairman of the committee along with a Chengappa, former Commissioner of Endowments and Y.Chakradhar Rao for Joint Executive Officer of TTD and the committee has been asked to submit its report within three months.

Contract workers reinstated

Two hundred contract workmen who were removed by the NTPC's Ramagundam power station eight months ago for being surplus have been taken back at the Labour Department's instance with service conditions and benefits applicable to regular employees. The NTPC signed a tripartite agreement on Tuesday reinstating the workmen.

Certification to ONGC

The ONGC's Tatipaka complex near Nagaram in the district has received the OHSAS 18001 certification for occupational health system. According to the ONGC spokesman, the complex comprising a GCS and mini refinery had earlier been certified for ISO 14001 for environmental management system and ISO 9001 for quality management systems.

Normal policing says DGP

The DGP SR Sukumara speaking to pressmen said on Wednesday stated that the naxals had violated the ceasefire conditions but not the police. He said that the snatching of weapons from a police constable in Vizianagaram and the assault on a constable in the Anthapur meeting were examples of the violation of the ceasefire terms. The DGP however maintained that the police had been adhering to the ceasefire norms and would go back to normal policing if directed by the Government.

Pulichintala project grounded amidst heavy protests

The works for the construction of the Pulichintala project on the Nalgonda side were launched at Vajinepally in Mellacheruvu mandal on Wednesday. The district administration and the police department made elaborate arrangements for the grounding of works. Hundreds of police personnel were deployed at the site area. The farmers demanded immediate compensation and the District Collector K.Vijayanad tried his best to convince the farmers but of no use and the team left the scene. The Minister for Irrigation, Ponnala Laxmaiah said that the Government has assured displaced people on account of this project and their rehabilitation work will begin within a fortnight.
