The first round of talks between naxals and the Government went of peacefully and successful. Taking advantage of the situation, the naxals could extract several concessions when the Home Minister, K.Jana Reddy announced a few of measures to meet their demands. His response however did not upto their expectations but however, they asserted this was not the end of the road and the talks would resume on November 17th.
The CPI (Maoist) State Secretary, Ramakrishna said that the talks were successful to the extent of minimizing violence from both the sides. The talks concluded without any development on the clause no.7 prohibiting the naxals from carrying weapons.
The Minister said that this demand and others will be taken up in the next round of talks. Reacting sharply on the comments made by the Chief Minister and the DGP, Mr.Ramakrsihana said naxals had every right to talk about the wages of police as they were members of a political party.
The highlight of the talks are High Power body to identify land for distribution to the poor, land inventory through detailed survey, new plan to monitor and control land sharks, time bound programme to implement Regulation 1/70(tribal land), favorable consideration for lifting cases against political activists, scrapping of rewards on heads to be considered, All POTO cases to be referred to the review committee, Anti socials, mafia groups and other armed groups to be controlled, Home Minister's guidelines on cease fire to be strictly enforced. Overall, the peace talks between the both the parties are successful.
In this context, Ramakrishna said the next round of talks would take place in another two months time and stated that the talks were held in a peaceful and cordial atmosphere.
