Foundation stone laid for Sodium plant at Manuguru
Manuguru (Khammam district)

The Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy Mr.Anil Kakodkar laid the foundation stone for a sodium plant at the Manuguru Heavy Water Plant on Saturday. He said efforts are on to set up nine nuclear power plants in the country soon. He reviewed the progress of the construction of boron enrichment facility along with the Heavy Water Board Chairman and Chief Executive SC Hiremath.

Both the units were taken up to cater the requirement of the second phase of the country's nuclear power programme.

Janashakti meeting at Karimnagar
Karimnagar

Tension prevailed in the town over the conduct of meeting of the CPI (ML) Janashakti group on Sunday. It is known that the police refused permission to the Janashakti group for conducting any rally or meeting while Janashakti leaders are firm on going ahead with it. While the both the parties are firm on the issue, tension prevailed in the city. The Janashakti District Committee member Managanna applied to the police seeking permission for organizing a meeting at the Government Junior College grounds which was denied by the police.

In this context, heavy police were deployed to avert any untoward incident. The police intensified vehicle checking and search operations in the town. The Police seized two jeeps which were carrying naxalite literature and publicity material for the meeting and moving without any valid documents. The Janashakti leader Managanna, the Beedi workers union State Secretary, Varalaxmi and district convene Rukmini alleged that the police are creating obstacles for the smooth conduct of the meeting.

NABARD sanctions Rs.600 crores
Visakhapatnam

The State Government has sanctioned Rs 600 crores for taking up schemes under minor and lift irrigation according to the Minister for Minor Irrigation A. Chandrasekhar. The Minister reviewed the ongoing works on Saturday. He said that Rs. 40 crore worth works sanctioned by NABARD has been sanctioned and proposals for another Rs 40 crores worth works were underway. All the works would be completed during this financial year.
