Eighteen CPM activists were arrested by the Jeedimetla police when they prevented officials from demolishing unauthorized constructions on the government land in Suraram village on Saturday. Police said the CPM activists along with some the police wnet to demolish the illegal encroachments, they met with resistance. Police lathicharged the mob and the officials demolished 4200 huts, five pucca houses. The arrested activists were released later.

The Adivasi Liberation Tigers, a recently formed armed naxal group on Sunday threatened to kill covert Laxaman whom it had taken captive two day back. The ALT State unit leader, Prachanda told pressmen over the phone that the party would conduct a 'Praja Court' on Monday in the forest area between Khammam and Warangal districts where he would be punished for betraying the people's movement. There were rumors that the covert was killed by the ALT holding him responsible for the Oddegudem incident of July 11th. The ALT planned to hand over the covert to the Maoists but they refused to accept him. The Maoist leader, Yadanna, questioning the credibility of the ALT said the outfit could punish him if it was committed to the 'people's movement'.

The PCC president K.Keshava Rao has given green signal for the construction of a new building for the District Congress Committee. The DCC was asked to ahead with the proposal since 2005 was declared as 'infrastructure provision year'. A DCC delegation who met the PCC chief at Hyderabad was asked to follow the party's guidelines. The Minister for Revenue Dharmana Prasada Rao had declared some time ago that he would see to it that a building is constructed for the party office.

'Complaints of eve teasing and ragging from girls while coming to college and during their return gone up. It was noticed that some teachers and local people are indulging in this brutal act. Coffee workers launched an indefinite strike on Saturday demanding redressel of their long pending demands and protesting against the adamant attitude of the management. The entire work in the coffee orchards came to a halt. The talks between the workers of five divisions in AP Forest Development Corporation and the management held on Thursday failed. The workers at Minumuluru went on strike on Friday and rest of the workers followed on Saturday. The main demands include payment of Rs.2 per kg.of coffee seeds for procurement, regularization services and medical facilities. The leader said that they are planning to take out a rally on Monday to mark their protest, if the management refused to solve their problems.
