Tender process - CMs reaction

The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy said that the Government will scrupulously follow the court direction in the tender process for irrigation works. Speaking to reporters at Adoni on Wednesday, he said the court did not find fault with the Government but felt that it should have renotified the tenders after certain relaxations were given to the agencies to help participation of more number of construction companies.

Naxals violence

There was an exchange of fire between naxalites belonging to the CPI (Maoists) group and the police in the interior tribal village in Chandurthi mandal on Thursday. This is the first such exchange of fire between these two parties during the cease fire agreement. The Superintendent of Police Rajiv Ratan said that on credible information that explosives were lying on the road, the special police parties were conducting routine culvert checking. As soon as the police party reached the spot, nearly ten naxals in olive green uniform reportedly taking shelter after noticing the presence of police and opened fire. Both sides opened fire nearly 50 rounds for about five minutes and later naxals escaped the scene.

The police recovered an SBBL weapon and empty cartridges were recovered from the spot. A report from Cuddapah, naxals of Papghni dalam members severely beat up five Congress functionaries in a 'praja durbar' conducted by them in a remote hamlet of Madhavaram village in Rayachoti mandal.

Airport Director arrested
The Airport Authority of India's Director for the Hyderabad Airport was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on the charges of accepting a bribe on Wednesday. It is said the CBI was tipped about the alleged corrupt practices in the commercial department of the Hyderabad Airport where officials were accused of collecting bribes for assigning space to transact business on the airport premises. The Vigilance authorities had raided the Hyderabad Airport's commercial department office.

Nursing course counselling
Vijayawada

Counselling for admission to the B.Sc. (nursing) four year and two year degree courses for 2004-05 will be conducted in two phases and the first phase from 1st December to 4th December and second from 15th and 16th December. The NTR University of Health Sciences issued a revised Counselling schedule to this effect on Wednesday. Counselling for all the physically challenged candidates and all categories of candidates who have applied for the two year direct courses will be held on 1st December and it will be followed by counselling for candidates who have applied for the four year direct course the next day.

Counselling for candidates with merit order number 443 to 723 and merit order 724 to 969 will be held on 3rd December followed by counselling for candidates with merit order number 970 to the last the next day. In the second phase counselling for candidates with merit order number 1 to 1006 will be held on December 15th which will be followed by counselling from 1007 to the last on the December 16th.
