The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy has presented the 'Pratibha Rajiv' award to six eminent personalities at a function held jointly with the launch of Rajiv Yuva Shakti, a self employment programme for the youth at Shilpakala Vedika on Friday. Each of the awardees was presented a cheque for Rs.50,000, a citation, memento and a shawl.

Prisoners go on strike in Warangal

Expressing solidarity with their fellow prisoners who attempted suicide, several inmates of the Warangal Central Prison went on hunger strike on Friday. Out of 1200 prisoners, nearly forty percent of them including some jailed naxals went on a fast in protest against the alleged harassment by the authorities and inadequate facilities in the Jail.

The Regional DIG of Jails, MR Ahmed, visited the prison in the wake of suicide attempt incident and interacted with the inmates. The prisoners complained the DIG about the shortage of drinking water and harassment of the authorities. He said that he would enquire into the harassment and necessary steps will be taken to arrange drinking water.

Gang rape in Nalgonda - four held

Nalgonda

A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and gang raped by a gang of youngsters in the town. The police arrested four of the accused. They kidnapped the girl on a motorcycle after beating her relative who was accompanying her.

The locals caught one of the gang members and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. On the basis of the information provided by him, the police arrested the rest of the three. They are in the search for another accused person.
