Naxals defy ban and unveil martyrs memorial in Karimnagar
Begumpet (Karimnagar)

Even after the imposition of Section 144 by the police and denial of permission for organizing memorial meeting by CPI (Maoists) on Saturday, they successfully unveiled a memorial constructed in the memory of Koyyur encounter victims and also organized martyr's memorial meeting.

The Police announced that the AP High court had denied permission to the CPI (Maoists) to organize any meeting in Begumpet village. Without heeding to the police, they went ahead and reached the memorial site along with the villagers and hurriedly tied up some red banners at the memorial and hoisted a flag by raising slogans. Tension prevailed in the Khammam district.

Kakinada Kotipalli rail line inaugurated
Kakinada

The Union Minister of State for Railways, R.Velu inaugurated the Kakinada Kotipalli railway line, which was resorted after it was dismantled during the Second World War period at a function held at the railway station on Saturday.

He also inaugurated the new railway station building in the north and remodeled station in the south of the track besides the computerized passenger reservation centre at the Kakinada Port station.

Bandh observed in Khammam
Khammam

In response to the call given by the Viswa Hindu Parishad to protest against the arrest of the Sankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Jayendra Saraswti, bandh was observed in Khammam town. The VHP and BJP activists marched through the streets and forced the shopkeepers to shut down their shutters. They burnt the effigy of the former Chief Minster of Tamilnadu M.Karunanidhi for reportedly justifying the police action. In Kurnool, the bandh was partial.

Accident claims 11 lives
Nalgonda

In a ghastly road accident at Gundlagudem village on the Warangal Hyderabad highway claimed eleven persons including two newly wedded couple. According to police sources, the accident occurred when the vehicle carrying them was involved in a collision with a lorry.

Panchaloha idols seized in Cuddapah
Cuddapah

The police seized four panchaloha idols which were stolen from Sri Venugopalaswamy temple at Gopavaram in July. The Superintendent of Police VC Sajjanar said the special party had arrested two persons on Saturday and seized the idols. The special party who seized the idols was handed over to the Gopavarm police for further action.

MN Reddy, noted scientist and researcher has been appointed as Chairman of the Swamy Ramananda Teertha Rural Institute, Bhoodan Pochampally.
