Chief Minister announces welfare measures

The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy on the 48th Andhra Pradesh State Formation Day celebrations amidst tight security at the NTR stadium announced several welfare measures. Speaking on the occasion, he said the peace talks between the Government and the naxal is an historical event and further expressed his confidence that the naxals will come into the main stream.
Dr.Reddy spoke many measures including plans to give electricity to industries at a low rate and to introduce a singe window clearance facility to IT units. He said the Food Assurance Scheme being implemented in 94 mandals now would be extended to other areas. Six hospitals would be upgraded in each district as comprehensive emergency obstetric and neonatal facilities with ambulances. Loans to a tune of Rs.3705 crores would be disbursed for the Rabi crops.
He paid glowing tributes to Potti Sriramulu who by his supreme sacrifice had paved way for the formation of a State for Telugu speaking people. He committed that five percent reservation to Muslims, Age relaxation, formation of a committee to get back Girijan lands, house sites to Government staff, Health insurance scheme for the poor, Development of 2500km village roads with NABARD are the highlights of the speech. He gave away to 47 policemen and others for their meritorious service.
Later school children presented a cultural programmes.

Protest against Constable's killing

Tension prevailed at the district police office as the body of the constable, N.Madan who died when the naxalites opened fire at Mangapet town was brought to the headquarters. Nearly 200 policemen staged a dharna with the body at the office of the Superintendent of Police for over four hours bringing traffic a standstill.
Policemen raised slogans demanding the suspension of the Eturunagaram Circle Inspector, Tirupathi who they alleged responsible for the death of his colleague. The Major Irrigation Minister, Ponnala Lakshmaiah and the District Collector, N.Siva Sankar were ghaeraoed when they visited the place. Mr.Ish Kumar said the CI had been transferred with immediate effect to the headquarters and a departmental enquiry ordered in the incident.

Saidabad turned violent

Police lobbed teargas shells and fired in the air to squatter the violent mobs in Saidabad locality during the funeral procession of Maujahid who was shot dead by the Gujarat police on Sunday night. In the violent incident, eight policemen were injured in stone throwing which resulted in escalation of tension all over the old city.
Maujahid was killed under dramatic circumstances when a police team opened fire to foil an attempt to take away Maulana Naseeruddin from its custody. The city police has also registered a case of murder against the Gujarat police team headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Narendra Kumar.
Despite deployment of a heavy police force in Saidabad locality, youngsters indulging in stone throwing Sensing things would go out of hands, the local Maithri committee members and elders intervened and held talks with the police for peaceful conduct of the funeral procession.
The Additional Commissioner of Police AK Khan who rushed there held parleys with the family members of Mujahid and other peace committee members and could control the situation.

Former Minister Madan Mohan expired

The former Congress Minister, A.Madan Mohan passed away after prolonged illness at the Apollo Hospital on Monday. Mr.Madan Mohan was the founder president of the Telangana Praia Samithi before it was taken over by M.Chenna Reddy under whose leadership the party spearheaded the Telangana agitation and ultimately won 10 Lok Sabha seats in 1971 elections.
He held portfolios of Revenue, Health, Mines and Geology, Law, Commercial Taxes, Technical Education in the cabinets of PV Narasimha Rao, Chenna Reddy, Bhavanam Venkatram, T.Anajaiah and K.Vijayabhara Reddy. He was the Leader of the Opposition when the TDP came in power in 1983. The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy visited the Apollo Hospital in the morning and later laid a wreath on the body at his house.

Chief Minister held responsible for incidents – says BJP

The Bharateeya Janatha Party(BJP) on Monday charged the State Police with failing to cooperate with their Gujarat counterparts regarding the arrest of Maulana Naseeruddin. The Party held the Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy responsible for the incidents leading to firing near the DGPs Office.
Addressing a press conference, the BJP Floor leader in the Assembly, G.Kishan Reddy said the peaceful atmosphere in the city became vitiated after the Congress came to power and accused the State Government of according a red carpet welcome to extremists and criminals. He sought a ban on the DJS and the TTSI and arrest of their leaders for making provocative statements.
