Free power promise and drought may affect TDP poll prospects

Hyderabad

The Telugu Desam president N.Chandrababunaidu Naidu has maintained that there is no anti establishment sentiment against the State Government but admitted that his party's electoral prospects might have been affected by the free power promise by the opposition propaganda. He admitted that he too could have made 'unrealistic promise' but had not done so in the long term interest of the state. He said power sector reforms were crucial for the development of the State and it would collapse if tinkered with.

Headmaster suspension draws flak in Visakhapatnam

The district unit of the Democratic Teachers Federation has decried the action of the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Commissioner suspending the headmasters of schools which recorded a success rate of below 40 per cent and demand that the suspensions be revoked immediately. In a statement issued by the urban convener of the unit.

Make way without fuss - says Rosaiah

Addressing a press conference on Saturday Mr.Rosaiah asked the Chief Minister N.Chandrababunaidu to ensure that there is no constitutional crisis after the declaration of the results as the Assembly has to be constituted by May 13th. As six month deadline for the Assembly constitution would lapse on May 13th and hence the present Government should pave way for smooth transitition without creating any hurdles.

15 killed in road accidents

Mahabubnagar

In a ghastly road accident nine persons were killed and another person was injured critically when the vehicle in which they were traveling collided head on with a truck near Miraspally village of Kothakota mandal on NH 7 in the early hours of Saturday. Mean while six persons were killed in two road accidents. Five members of a marriage party were killed when the van in which they were traveling collided with a lorry near Tekulapalli village late on Friday night.

Two persons including a lorry driver died on the spot when their vehicle was hit by a truck near Gannaram on NH7 under Dichpalli police station limits.

Doordarshan to telecast swearing in ceremony

Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Doordarshan Kendra is telecasting programmes from May 10 to 13 including the live telecast of the swearing in ceremony on the DD Saptagiri channel in addition to regular news bulletins during the 'General Election 2004'.The programmes include live discussions and analysis of half hour duration.

Collectors asked to keep strict vigil on counting days

Hyderabad

The Chief Electoral Officer M.Narayanarao has asked the district Collector and SPs to be alert and take all steps to avert incidents and violence on (votes) counting days. As there is law and order problem may arise, he asked the officials to be more vigilant on these days.

Man held for cheating jobless persons

Tirupathi

A man who had allegedly been cheating unemployed persons for long by promising to get them plum jobs in the TTD administration was caught by people and handed over to the police on Saturday.

Suspect in mine blast held

The district police arrested seven PWG naxals last night. One was allegedly associated with the claymore mine attack on the TDP leaders including the former MP K.Srinivasulu according to the SP Anil Kumar.
