Minister participates in programme for farmers

Hyderabad

The Minister for Agriculture N.Raghuveera Reddy, on Monday participated in the Tythannaku nestam programme telecast by a private TV channel to know the problems of farmers and issued instructions to the district collectors for remedial action.

MLAs take oath - All set for Suresh Reddy to be Speaker

Members of the 12th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly took oath of affirmation in an all-pervasive mood of cordiality and goodwill as the inaugural session of the House got under way on Monday. All but five of the members were administered the oath By.P.Sambasiva Raju who, in turn, was sworn in earlier as Speaker pro term by the Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala at Raj Bhavan.

The Leader of the House, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, first to take the oath, proceeded to the opposition benches and greeted his predecessor and long-time political adversary, N.Chandrababu Naidu and other floor leaders. Indicative of the prevailing mood of bon homie was the manner in which the ruling party and the opposition ensured unanimous choice of K.R.Suresh Reddy of Congress as Speaker. A formal announcement will be made in the House on Tuesday.

Tirumala-type ghat road getting ready in Visakhapatnam

Another tourist attraction will be added to Visakhapatnam city once the Hilltop Road connecting Visakhapatnam to the Pilgrim centre of Simhachalam is opened to the public in a few weeks. The road being laid on the lines of the Tirupati-Tirumala ghat Road is a joint venture project between the Simhachalam Devastanam and the VUDA.

The Hilltop Road developed atop the hills connecting the National Highway No.5 will take the tourists and pilgrims to Simhachalam, the abode of Lord Varaha Lakshmi Nrusimhaswamy.

TDP stand on Telangana unchanged says Chandrababu Naidu

Hyderabad

The Telugu Desam Party president, N.Chandrababunaidu, said that the TDP's stand against statehood for Telangana remain unchanged. Responding to a question on the reported statement of the BJP leader L.K.Advani, that his party would have no objection to statehood for Telangana if there was a political consensus, he said, 'The TDP's stand is clear and unchanged. The Left is also opposing separate Telangana'.

Former MLA joins Congress

Kurnool

The former MLA TG Venkatesh, formally joined the Congress here on Monday, along with him 19 corroborators belonging to the TDP, the former TDP city president and several MPTC members and sarpanches joined the party.

Indian Airlines to run additional flights to Gulf

Hyderabad

Indian Airlines has plans to operate 18 additional flights - 12 on the Hyderabad/Sharjah/Hyderabad sector and six between Hyderabad, Dubai and back to meet the heavy demand from Indians in the Gulf region and vacation travelers.

According to the Station Manager,the additional flights would be operated with Airbus A 320 between June 24 and July 5th.

Eight more farmers commit suicide

According to reports, eight farmers committed suicide in Karimnagar, Rajahmundry, Nalgonda, Guntur, Kurnool and Anathapur due to debt ridden and failure of crops.

Rajyalakshmi firm on quitting

Hyderabad

The Minister for School Education N Rajyalakshmi on Monday said there was no change in her decision to resign from the Council of Ministers. Speaking to reporters, she held that she had taken oath as a member of the Assembly because her name was called in the beginning along with other Ministers she said.

Renuka has mega plans for tourism

Hyderabad

The Union Minister of State for Tourism, Renuka Chowdhary, has announced that India as a tourist brand name would be promoted globally as part of the efforts to increase the foreign arrivals from 3 million to 10 million in the next two years. Addressing a press conference on Monday along with State Tourism Minister J.Geetha Reddy, she declared that 'Incredible India' campaign launched earlier has given identity and received positive response.
