Mild tremor hits State

Hyderabad

A mild tremor measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale hit parts of the State at 10.57am on Friday according to the National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad described as very minor tremor.

Chief Minister asks naxals to stop violence

Hyderabad

The Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy has asked the People's War to stop all acts of violence now that the State Government has done its bit for creating a conductive atmosphere for talks. 'We have expressed our willingness to hold talks with the PWG and it should respect our initiative for a cease-fire. In fact, both sides should maintain utmost restraint with the decks having been cleared for an open dialogue', he told pressmen.

Collieries' privatization ruled out

Hyderabad

The Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Dasari Narayanarao has ruled out privatization of State-owned collieries/coal companies such as Western Coalfields, Coal India Ltd., and Singareni, but said such an option may be preferred on case to case basis in respect of new mines.

125 huts gutted in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam

125 huts were destroyed and property worth over Rs.15 lakhs was lost in a major fire at Chapalapalem village near Pedagantyada in Visakhapatnam on Friday. The fire broke out as a result of sparks from a stove in one of the huts and spread rapidly in the neighboring ones. Fire-tenders from NTPC, Pedagantya, Maddilapalem and Surayabagh were rushed and no causalities were reported.

DIETCET answer key released

The answer key for DIETCET-2004 HELD ON May 21st has been released. Candidates can have the answer key on APOnline.gov.in from May 29th to June 2nd upto 5pm according to the convener

Seven PWG sympathizers nabbed

Anantapur

The district police today arrested seven militants and sympathizers of the People's War allegedly involved in criminal cases and for helping PW dalams. The police recovered an 8mm revolver and Rs.2.69 lakhs in cash. Speaking to newsmen here, the SP Anil Kumar said two sympathizers were connected to the naxalites' bid on the life of three TDP leaders.

Top priority for rural water supply

Hyderabad

The Rural Development Minister D.Srinivas on Friday took charge and signed the first file pertaining to the Rs.3 crore drinking water, telecommunications and road project in the rural division of Miryalaguda under the Provision of Urban Amenities for Rural Areas scheme of the Central Government. Addressing the press conference, Mr.Srinivas said he would give top priority for drinking water supply and sanitation programmes in rural areas.

M.D.Naryana Naidu, former Chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh College Service Commission and close associate of the TDP founder, late NT Ramarao released a book he had authored 'NTR maranam: Velugu Choodani Vaastavalu' on Friday.
