Three more farmers commit suicide

Hyderabad

At least three more debt ridden farmers committed suicide while another died of heart attack in various parts of the State even as the Cabinet at its first meeting on Monday is expected to announce more measures to stem the suicide. The suicides are reportedly from Nellore, Velupur in Tanuku rural mandal and Nizamabad. With this the toll of farmer suicides due to various reasons in recent times rose to 44.

Dissidence its media creation says YSR

The Chief Minister Dr.YS Rajasekharara Reddy today denied that there was dissidence among his partymen over the choice of Ministers or allotment of portfolio and described the situation as a creation of the media. Talking to reporters on his return from New Delhi where he attended the swearing in ceremony of the Manmohan Singh Ministry, Dr.Reddy said the reported resignation of the Minister for School Education N.Rajyalakshmi from his cabinet was a small problem which the media was blowing out of proportion.

Varavararao, Gaddar arrested, freed

Eleven persons, including the Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee members, Varavara Rao, Pinakapani, Pinaka Srinivasa Rao and the revolutionary singer Gaddar were arrested at Chirala in Prakasam District on Sunday evening for violating police orders and later released. The district police had denied permission for organising a public meeting and rally to observe the first death anniversary of the PW State Committee member Karumanchi Prasad.

The organisers later published in the local media that despite the rejection of permission by the police, they would go ahead with the anniversary to which the police had also given adequate publicity in all media cautioning them of stern action if they violated the police order and went ahead with the meeting.

Supporters of Indrakaran to meet YSR

Adilabad

The non induction of the Nirmal MLA elect A.Indrakaran Reddy into the Cabinet was resented by the Congressmen in the district on Sunday. Congress workers and supporters of the MLA led by party leaders will meet the Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy at his residence on Monday.

Liberal aid to farmers from banks urged

The State Committee of the CPI-M on Sunday stressed the importance of freeing farmers from the grip of private money-lenders so as to prevent them committing suicide. R.Subash Chandra Bose, Secretary of the party in a statement issued here called for steps to provide liberal financial assistance to farmers from cooperative and nationalized banks.

P.Janardhana Reddy denies reports

Hyderabad

Senior Congress leader and Khairatabad MLA P. Janardhana Reddy has dismissed reports that he was upset at not being inducted into the State Cabinet. Its not an issue at all. Cabinet information is the sole prerogative of the Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy. It is for him to decide, he told to the reporters on Sunday.

Mahila Congress leader resigns

Nellore

Denial of berth either for Anam brothers Vivekananda Reddy and Ramanaryana Reddy in State Cabinet or for the Visakhapatnam MP N.Janaradhana Reddy in the Union Cabinet has led to intense political activity in the district. The District Mahila Congress president P.Arunamma has sent her resignation to the State Mahila Congress president J.Geetha Reddy as a mark of protest.

YSR-Cabinet to meet for the first time

The first meeting of the new Council of Ministers of the newly formed Government will be held at 4 pm on Monday. According to sources, the Cabinet will consider several iss ues, including the political agenda for the Assembly session commencing on May 31st.

Amongst the other main points that are expected to come in the discussions includes the farmer suicide problems. The cabinet is also expected to take decision on its future course of action and how to go ahead with the plans.

Discussions on the issue at the District and Mandal meetings are convened for May 26th and 27th respectively.

YSR assures farmers of all help

The Chief Minister, Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday described the spate of farmers suicide as heart rending and said the Government was formulating plans to ensure that farmers of upland areas earned a regular annual income by promoting bio-plantations. Addressing a public meeting at the CSI Church School grounds at Pulivendula in Cuddapah district, Dr.Reddy said he was well aware that farmers were ending their lives due to mounting debts and out of self-respect. The Government was working out plans to rehabilitate the families of deceased farmers, besides assisting the farmers who were on the verge of committing suicide.

Government seeks report on ryots suicide.

The State Government has asked the Collectors to visit the families of farmers who committed suicide in various districts since the Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy was sworn in and submit reports by Monday afternoon analyzing reasons for their deaths. The reports will come up for discussion at the Cabinet meeting later that day when a plan of action on pro-farmer measures will be finalized, the Agriculture Minister, the Revenue Minister and five other Ministers told a news conference here on Sunday.

YSR to pay copter hire charges

The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy who used the State Government helicopter to visit Pulivendula on Sunday will pay the prescribed hire charges for the helicopter as it was used for urgent personal work according to a press release.

Naxals bid to kidnap rice miller

Khammam

The police thwarted an attempt made by naxalites of Janshakti group to kidnap a rice miller from Gandhampalli village in Garla Bayyaram police station limits on Sunday. The confrontation between the two sides resulted in an exchange of fire and no causalities were reported on either side.

CDMA gang busted in Hyderabad

Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Police arrested 5 persons in connection with a mobile phone racket. As per the Police Commissioner RP Singh, the gang downloaded a software from the Internet that allows a phone number to be installed to a CDMA Phone. The phone can then use the phone number of another phone subscriber.
br />Those people who bought the phone from the gang can enjoy free pone calls as long as the original owner of the phone number suspects. The gang sold over 300 mobile phone handsets in this manner. CDMA Phone from almost all manufacturers except those of Nokia ware prone to this problem. The police were able to arrest 5 members of the gang while 8 more are absconding.
