Self Immolation bid by TDP activists

The simmering discontent in the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) surfaced in the open on Monday, with eight workers attempting to self immolation in the One Town area, protesting against the denial of ticket to the party's Vijayawada West constituency in-charge, K.Nagul Meera. However, their immolation efforts were foiled by fellow party workers who whisked them away even as few others went berserk destroying half a dozen party flags at different places in the city.
Counting advanced by one day

The counting of votes in the State will begin at 2pm on May 11 and not on May 12 as per the earlier schedule and announcement. The Additional Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Sawhney said at the day's press briefing repoll that, for the Phase I polling, the vote counting will be on April 22nd and for the Phase II polling on April 28th.
Naxalite killed in encounter

A Peoples War Group (PWG) naxalite, Repaka Illaiah was killed in an exchange of fire with a special party of the Medak district police on the outskirts of Chinakishtaipalli village in the wee hours of Monday.
Former Minister from Anantapur quits TDP

Former Minister and a three-time legislator from Dharmavaram constituency of Anantapur, G Nagi Reddy has quit the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today. Announcing his decision, he said that he took the move against the denial of party ticket for the constituency for the coming elections. He informed his decision to the party from Hyderabad.

The Prime Minister Atul Bihari Vajpayee will address an election rally at Nellore on April 3, 2004. The Prime Ministers visit is confirmed by the State President of the Bharateeya Janatha Party (BJP) N Indrasena Reddy. He said that the details of the Prime Minister's visit were yet to be received.
Naxals torch bus in Warangal

Naxalites of the Peoples War Group (PWG) torched an bus belonging to the state-run Andhra Pradesh Bus Transport Corporation (APSRTC) late night. The incident occured near Jagalapalli village of Kothaguda mandal.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) District Committee Office came under attack of its own workers and functionaries on Monday. A strong mob of party men went on the rampage following reports that the party leader Potla Nageswar Rao was denied ticket.

Dalit Morcha activist attempts self-immolation

A BJP Dalit Morcha activist, G.Jagarju of Nagireddipalli Harijanawada in Nandalur mandal attempted self immolation by dousing himself with kerosene at Aravapalle village in Nandalur mandal on Monday with the demand not to renominate the former Lok Sabha member Gunipati Ramaiah from Rajampet.
Narrow escape for Jute mill workers

About 150 workers on duty in the local Sri Krishna Jute Mill had a providential escape on Monday when one of its godowns caught fire. More details on the reason for the occurance of the fire was yet to be received. The locale tried to keep the fire under control till the fire briges reached the incident location.
