Congress and Left Parties seat sharing fails
Hyderabad
The talks between the Congress and Left parties on seat sharing in the state broke down here on Tuesday with the former not being prepare to offer more than one seat for Lok Sabha and eight Assembly segments each to CPI and CPI (M).As a result the entire scene was shifted to New Delhi with the AICC stepping in to resolve the issue at the 'Center Level'.
Budget ordinance likely on March 30th

A vote on account budget authorizing the Andhra Pradesh Government to draw money from the State's Consolidated Fund to meet the expenditure for April-July 2004 will be approved most likely on March 30. The Governor S.S.Barnala, will promulgate an ordinance in exercise of his powers of the Constitution approving the vote on account budget.

DGP urges media to show more restraint

Talking a cue from the Election Commission's observation that the threats held out by the PWG should not be reported in the media, the State Director General of Police S.R.Sukumara has appealed to media to exercise restraint in reporting naxalite statements and reminded that any such reportage could attract prosecution under relevant sections of law. At a press conference convened to detail security arrangements during the elections, he said reporting of threats was a specified offence under the Representation of People Act, the Indian Penal Code and other special laws. He said, his intension is not to Percepate action against reporters, but would like to request to exercise restraint.

Naxalite's escape bid proves fatal

A naxalite of Jhanjhavathi Dalam in an attempt to free himself from a special police party jumped into a valley from atop a hill near Kalumi on the AP Orissa border in Salur mandal on Monday. While he was being escorted, the naxalite jumped from atop a hillock into a deep valley and died while he was being brought to Salur.

TDP chief continues talks with party men

The TDP president N.Chandrababunaidu has begun second round of consultations with District leaders to seek their views on the preliminary list of candidates h has prepared with inputs from sources within the party and outside.Mr.Naidu on Tuesday met party men from Nellore, Prakasam and Cuddapah districts in continuation of the exercise he began on Monday and plans to complete these interactions in a couple of days so as to to release the first list of candidates well before 24th.
Five left parties forge electoral alliance

Five left parties - MCPI, the CPI(ML) Liberation, the CPI(ML), the ML Committee and the SUCI have come together to contest the coming Assembly and parliamentary elections on a common platform. They plan to contest 36 Assembly seats and nine parliamentary seats. Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, the Convenor of the front and leader of the MCPI said they had wanted to continue with the alliance of nine Left parties that had been united in mass struggles in the State for the past few years.
Naxalites give police the slip

A 30 member naxalite team of PWG escaped from the police firing at Chitriyala village in Chandampet mandal last night. According to police sources, naxalites opened fire on seeing the special combing party and the police retaliated. The police recovered two claymore mines, one SLR magazine with 16 rounds, on kitbag and three plastic bags from the spot.
Revision of train timings

A tri weekly express between Mumbai Central Station and Latur is being introduced by the South Central Railway from March 21st. Consequently timings of three trains will undergo slight revision.

Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam' was performed inside the famous Hill temple of Lord Venkateswara, Tirumala on Tuesday amidst great religious fervour.The periodical 'Thirumanjanam' festival which is performed only four times in a year, was performed inside the temple in connection with the Telugu New Year Day which falls on 21st.
