PPAs to be reviewed- says CM

Fulfilling a commitment the Congress party has given to the people, the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, has decided to review and renegotiate the power purchase agreements reached with four independent power producers during the Telugu Desam reigm..He said the Government is going to ask them to come for negotiations, he told reporters on Thursday after a review session with senior officials.

Balalkrishna's bail petition dismissed

There was no reprieve for film actor Balalkrishna, presently in the eye of a storm over the shooting incident, even on his birthday on Thursday as the Metropolitan Sessions Judge Bhavani Prasad rejected the bail petition moved before him. The MSJ did not agree with the contention of noted criminal lawyer. C.Padmanabha Reddy, the defence counsel for Balalkrishna, that enlarging his client on bail would provide his ‘mental satisfaction’ which would lead to his speedy recovery and that most of evidence collection had already been completed by the investigators. The film actor is undergoing treatment in the NIMS, while being in judicial remand. Mr. Bhavani Prasad, meanwhile, asked his relatives to move a separate petition before the magistrate concerned for permitting them to call on Balalkrishna at the hospital. A suspected key operative of Hizbul Mujahideen, Anees Mohinuddin, was picked up the police at the Begumpet Airport here today. A native of Andhra Pradesh, Anees was charges with funding the Indian Muslim Mohammadi Mujahideen, set up by the Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence agent, Azam Ghori. Police sources said Anees had contacts with terrorist organization which as the Lakshar-e-Taiba. He was reportedly in London for quite some time.

CM orders payment of salaries to APSIDC staff

The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, today ordered payment of salaries to the employees of AP State Irrigation Development Corporation from the available funds of the corporation. This followed a meeting with the minister of Lift irrigation and APSIDC, Moolinti Mareppa, who informed Dr.Reddy that the employees had not been paid salaries for the past 10 months. The Minister has since sent a note to the MD of the corporation to pay the salaries immediately.

Centre to give Rs.450 cr.for irrigation projects

The Central Government has positively responded to the State Government’s plea for Rs.450 crores assistance to complete 11 irrigation projects under the Rapid Irrigation Development Fund scheme. The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who met the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and other Ministers this week to seek funds for irrigation and other projects, told presses meet here on Thursday.

25000 child laborers join summer schools

In a major programme against child labor, M.Venkatarangaiya Foundation, in collaboration with the District Collector, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the District Primary Education Programme have successfully motivated 25,000 children in 650 villages in Kurnool district to join summer schools. The programme 'Padandi Badiki' involved members of the School Education Committees, Gram Panchayats and youth groups, to contact and motivate parents and employers to send children employed as labour to schools.
