Andhra Pradesh Budget for 2004-05 passed

The Budget for 2004-05 proposed by the Finance Minister, K.Rosaiah for Rs 51,142 crores was passed by the Assembly after heated discussions. He made no new announcements barring an assurance to consider stepping up assistance to the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad and the Metro Water Board. The TDP's complaint that the Government was indulging in witch hunting by ordering 12 inquiries. Responding to the allegations in irrigation tenders, he said the former Chief Minister, N.Chandrababu Naidu cleared purchase of machinery worth Rs.384 crores for the Jurala project after polling had concluded. The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned sine die by the Speaker KR Suresh Reddy on Thursday night after 28 days sittings.
Junior Doctors called off strike

The seven day old strike by the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors Association ended on Thursday with the assurance by the State Government constituting a committee to supervise functioning of private medical colleges and related issues including non functioning of colleges.

The Regional Labour Commissioner and the Asst.Labour Commissioner were making efforts to bring an amicable solution to the strike by the Dock Labour Board workers which entered fifth day on Thursday. According to a press release from VPT, the loading of iron ore and discharge of liquid bulk cargo, done with mechanical system, were going normally. The port authorities were making efforts to bring an end to the strike and the Chairman of the VPT made a personal appeal to the striking workers and leaders of the trade unions.
Cases against PW emissaries

Cases were booked against the negotiating leaders who addressed the massive gathering of public in Warangal in connection with Martyrs day celebrations. Cases were booked against Varavarao, Gaddar and Kalyana Rao for waging a criminal conspiracy to unseat the democratically elected Government through an armed struggle, instigating the public and violating terms on which permission by the PW. Reacting sharply, Varavararao said that the police cases will become a hurdle, while on one side peace talks are going on one side and contrary the police are booking cases.
Insurance cover for bore wells
Hyderabad
Farmers who dig bore wells that fail to produce water will be protected by insurance cover, while rigging owners will be required to obtain feasibility certificates from the Ground Water Department on the availability of water in agricultural lands. A bill to this effect was passed in the Assembly and amends the AP Water, Land and Tree Act 2002 which contains these provisions.
YSR Rajiv Palle Bata cancelled
Hyderabad The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy's 'Rajiv Palle Bata' to Chittoor and Cuddapah districts on 1st and 2nd were cancelled following his illness. It will be held on August 17th and 18th according to a press release. The doctors are attending him and advised him to take rest.
