RBI tells Global Trust Bank to consider merger with Oriental Bank of Commerce

The Reserve Bank of India announced its intention to merge the troubled GTB with the public sector Oriental Bank of Commerce. The draft scheme for amalgamation of the GTB and OBC has been forwarded to both the banks and they have been given time till August 7th to considering it. All the GTB employees will be retained by OBC on the same terms and conditions.

Sales tax dues of HSL waived
Hyderabad
The State Government has decided to waive the sales tax dues amounting to R.50 crores to be paid by the Hindustan Shipyard Limited. The request of Visakhapatnam I MLA Dronam Raju's request on this issued was considered by the Chief Minister YS.Rajasekhara Reddy.
Irregularities on IMAX theatre

The irregularities in the allotment of land, entertainment tax exemption and relaxation of entrance rates to Prasad's IMAX Theatre complex, The Minister for Tourism J.Geetha Reddy on Monday announced that a House Committee would enquire into them. She confirmed that IMAX theatre had not obtained any permission from the City Police commissioner and Fire Services Department on the day of the inauguration and got the final permission on April 12th and no sales tax exemption was given.
Strike stalls operations at Vizag Port

Sparking protests by AITUC led cargo handling workers against the engagement of private labour; Operations in the Vizag port have been seriously affected with the two berths. Trade sources said the strike has paralyzed ship berthing movements and loading and unloading of cargo since Sunday afternoon.
Fake currency racket busted in Karimnagar

The Peddapalli police have busted a fake currency notes racket with the arrest of 14 persons and seizure of Rs.1.25 lakhs counterfeit notes of Rs.100 and Rs.50 denominations and scanner and printers.
One time age relaxation

The Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy, on Monday announced a one time age relaxation for the qualified, but unemployed candidates of DSC selections held earlier. The upper age limit now would be 45 years for such candidates. Addressing the newspersons here during 'Rajiv Palle Bata', the Chief Minister said the qualified but unemployed candidates from earlier DSC selections had been demanding that they be given jobs based on their performance in the selection process. The problem of filling vacancies with left over selected candidates was done away with in 2002 he pointed out.
