Intintiki Deepam program within three months – says Government

On the eve of 'Rajiv Palle Bata' programme, the Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy announced supplying of free power to the households of weaker sections; he said that ‘Intintiki Deepam” scheme will become a reality within three months. In this connection he said that the Government is also seriously contemplating a health insurance scheme to benefit rural artisans who were facing trying circumstances. He assured that the Polavaram project has been taken up on war footing which was the need of the hour in drought prone upland areas.

Konatala Ramakrishna visits Visakhapatnam agency areas

The Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konatala Ramakrishna along with medical teams, on Sunday undertook an hectic tour to the agency areas where tribals are suffering with viral fever and provide treatment.

Two groups of naxals clash

Warangal

Two naxals were killed in an exchange of fire between two groups in the forest area in Tadvai mandal on Sunday. According to uninformed sources, different squads of Prathighatana and Peoples' War met in the forest area to finalise the strategy to be adopted for the proposed talks with the State Government. Following some heated exchanges, these two groups exchanged fire.

Balgopal will not mediate talks

The Human Rights Forum convener K.Balagopal has said that he will not mediate in the proposed talks between the naxals and the State Government on Sunday. Welcoming the initiative from the both the parties, he advised to create a congenial atmosphere for the talks and both the parties should be committed and try not to create hurdles.

Construction Worker's Leader murdered

The district vice-president of the Construction Workers' Union was hacked to death by some unidentified persons in Dharmavaram on Saturday night. According to police, about seven persons were involved in this action.

Interim relief to teachers

The AP Democratic Teachers' Federation has demanded 20 per cent interim relief for teachers and Government employees in view of the likely delay in finalization of Pay Revision Commission. The State Executive of the federation which met on Sunday adopted a resolution to this effect.
