A number of traders hailing from West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Maharashtra are crying foul after a firm of Nizamabad has allegedly duped them over Rs.2 crores by promising them supply and purchase of maize. Having been allegedly ticked by the said firm, the victims are running from pillar to post to get back their money. At lest five persons have approached the Nizamabad police and complained about the alleged cheating.
Congress crisis blows over in State

The crisis in the Andhra Pradesh Congress which was in the grip of wild rumors over the possible desertions of three prominent Cuddapah leaders has blown over at least temporarily. The last minute intervention by the former Chief Minister N.Janaradhana Reddy and a couple of phone calls from the high command saved the day for the Congress.
Securitization Act a big blow to SSI sector

The former president of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Small Industries Association TVS Murty on Saturday said that the banks were invoking the provisions of Securitization Act to catch the small fish and allow the big ones to go scot-free. He made this observation an awareness programme organized by the Industries Department for the Small scale entrepreneurs of the district.
Setback to child labour project

The MV Foundation involved in eradication of child labour and their enrolment in schools in 30 mandals of five districts has decided to pull out following non payment of dues totaling Rs.7.84 crores by the Society for Elimination of rural Poverty. The foundation has been working on a yearly renewable contract with SERP under World Bank aided project since august 2001. The five districts are Srikakulam, Vizianagaram,, Chittor, Adilabad and Mahabubnagar
Man held ganja seized

The two town police arrested one K.China Babu here on Saturday and seized 10kg. of ganja according to sub-inspector M.V.Ganesh. The man hails from darakonda in G.K.Veedhi mandal of Visakhapatnam district. .
Man held on theft charge and cash recovered

An auto driver B.Satyanarayana was arrested by the Government Railway Police on charge of lifting a suitcase and Rs 1lakh cash was recovered from him on Saturday. According to the C.I. P.Mohanarao, the accused belonging to Maharanipeta area recently snatched two bundles of Rs.500 notes amounting to Rs. One lakh from a bus passenger at Kakinada and returned to the city. He was also allegedly involved in six cases of staling suitcases of railway passengers.
7 year old molested

A jeep driver allegedly molested a seven year old school girl at Mudigubba in the district last night. He was arrested by the police on a complaint given by the girl's parents.
Stamp on Annamayya released

The Union Ministry of Communications, IT and Department of Posts would be releasing on March 29th this year a cocommemorative stamp on the saint-poet, Annamacharya, who composed 32,000 verses in Telugu in praise of Lord Venkateswara.
Youth murdered in Warangal

A youth was stabbed to death while two others were seriously injured allegedly by one Shoukatullah Baig and his accomplices late last night here. The police said A Srinivas died on the spot while his friends suffered serious injuries when they were attacked for allegedly teasing a girl. The police said Rajavardhan,Gopi and Srinivas Reddy of Adilabad district all students of St.Peters B.Ed College were staying in Gokulanagar near the College.
Civic Chief swallows sleeping pills

Uproarious scenes were witnessed at a function held at Malaviya Nagar of Gudur town of Nellore district on Saturday evening, following an alleged attempt by the Municipal chairperson Koduru Kalpalatha to swallow sleeping pills. She was later rushed to the local Government Hospital for treatment. The police received a complaint in this regard and investigating.
Security conscious TTD to go hi-tech gadgets

Sophisticated gadgets are being procured from Singapore to tighten security at Tirumala in the wake of the recent naxals attack on the Chief Minister according to TTD Chairman D.K.Adikesavulu Naidu. Addressing a press conference he said security measures would also be taken to avert robberies and waylaying of pilgrims trekking to Tirumala on foot.
Fake coins racket busted

The Patapatnam police have arrested six persons allegedly involved in a racket bringing counterfeit coins of Rs.5 into circulation according to Circle Inspector K.Rajendra.
DGP opens forensic science laboratory at Kurnool

The Director General of Police S.R.Sukumara on Saturday inaugurated the regional forensic science laboratory constructed at a cost of Rs.40 lakhs here. Speaking to reports he said the department planned to set up laboratories in each range. The present one which would cater to the needs of Kurnool and Cuddapah districts was sixth in the series.

Seminar on Annamacharya from February 3rd

For three days next week the Andhra University campus will be venue for discussions on "Vaggeyakaara" Tallapaka Annamacharya. The Department of Telugu in Andhra University and the Annamacharya Project of the TTD will jointly organize a national seminar on Annamacharya here from February 3 to 5th.This was for the first time that such a conference was being conducted in the city and several professors and researchers on Annamayya would attend the seminar.
