Naxals open fire at market yard

Karimnagar

Suspected naxalites belonging to the PWG shot at the Jammikunta Agricultural Market Committee Chairman P. Satyanarayana Rao and the directors Ch.Ramaswamy and V.Rajireddy at the newly constructed market yard at Kesavapur on the outskirts of Jammikunta town on Saturday evening. Mr.Satyaanarayanarao and Rajireddy sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to the MGM Hospital where their condition is stated to be serious.

CPI(M) to fight polls on four issues

The Communist Party of India (M) will fight the elections in the State on four important issues according to B.V.Raghavulu, State Secretary of the party. While addressing a press conference he said that the neglect of the irrigation projects, failure to create employment opportunities, power sector reforms and corruption would be the key issues in the party campaign.

Immolation bid by ONGC workers - 10 suffer burns

Narsapur

At least ten persons were hospitalized with minor burns when the striking families of contract workers of the ONGC made a futile bid to immolate themselves at Rustumbagh near here in West Godavari District on Saturday evening. According to Police sources, they arrested 28 persons including women and children as part of foiling the self immolation bid by them. Tension prevailed in the town following a massive dharna organized by different political parties in front of the police station as a sequel to the arrests. The DSP said as many as 150 protesters were arrested while staging the dharna. It may be recalled that the contract workers engaged in Krishan-Godavai basin have been striking work at 10-15 points demanding regularization of their services.
